About the New York Alliance Against the Real ID Act
The New York Alliance Against the Real ID Act represents organizations from across the political and issue spectrum that have joined together to oppose implementation of the Real ID Act in New York State.

The Alliance opposes implementation of Real ID for varied reasons, including the threat it poses to New Yorkers’ civil rights and privacy rights, the increased risk of identity theft it creates for New Yorkers, the bureaucratic problems it will generate for many U.S. citizens in New York, and the cost it will impose on New York’s cash-strapped economy.

The New York Alliance Against the Real ID Act encourages Congress to repeal the Real ID Act or to amend it to fix its myriad problems. The Alliance also calls upon New York Governor David Paterson to reject Real ID implementation in New York. Already, 20 states across the country have passed legislation opposing the Real ID Act.  New York should join this bipartisan movement of states to reject the Real ID Act.
