Reject Real ID!

All over the country, lawmakers, governors, civil libertarians, immigrants' rights activists and concerned Americans are coming together to oppose the Real ID Act. This controversial legislation attempts to create America's first national identity card.

The good news is that Congress has left it up to each state to decide whether to submit to the Real ID Act. Because of a host of problems, many states have rejected Real ID. In some state legislatures -- including Georgia, Maine, New Hampshire, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Washington -- lawmakers have successfully passed legislation opposing Real ID implementation. Close to 30 other states have introduced similar bills. In New York State, a broad coalition of Americans has joined forces to ensure that New York joins these states in firmly declaring its opposition to the Real ID Act.
